Meet Mattie

Hi Ya'll!

My name is Mattie Barr. I grew up in small town Wisconsin in a family of six. Ever since I was a little girl, I have dreamed of being a teacher. When growing up, I would beg my sisters to play school with me, in which I was the teacher and they were my students. I love reading, cooking, watching the Packers and exploring new places in my free time, but most of all, finding ways to be a more effective and reflective teacher.

Throughout my education + teaching, I challenge my students to construct their own knowledge based on experiences they make. My ultimate goal within my classroom is to create meaningful relationships with my students, be flexible, and promote self-efficacy. Not only do I want to teach my students reading, writing, science, social studies, and math but to teach them how to be a good person and that they matter. I want to be a teacher that celebrates things that make each student different and to discover how they can become their best self.

Life and learning is not always easy but at the end of the day, we will each say, “I will try again tomorrow.”
